Everyone’s favorite serial-killer-hunting FBI agent Jonathan Groff went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about his latest Off-Broadway play, but the segment was completely derailed when the two started talking about previous guest Julie Andrews.

Groff, who currently stars in Netflix’s Mindhunter, had just met the legendary Andrews moments before backstage and was still visibly flustered toward the beginning of the six-and-a-half-minute clip. Colbert asked him, “Have you always been a fan of Julie’s?” Groff couldn’t hide his glee. “Not only a fan,” he told Colbert, “but a deep, deep, deep fan, where when I was three years old, I dressed up as Mary Poppins for Halloween.”

Reader, the cuteness hasn’t even started yet. Colbert pulled out his first secret weapon, an old picture of Groff looking adorable in his Mary Poppins costume! “I had lipstick on, and a hat, and my mom had a carpet bag,” Groff said as Colbert kept on saying how fantastic it all was.

“We had the VHS of Mary Poppins, and my mom will tell you, I watched it every single day!” Groff continued to gush about his childhood hero.

Colbert pointed out that Groff had a great mom to help her three-year-old son dress up as Mary Poppins. So many parents today are caught up in upholding gender norms making sure that boys wear “boy costumes,” and most parents during Groff’s childhood would do the same. Thank God and the Gays for parents who encourage their children to explore gender and fashion!

But wait, we are absolutely not done — things got real real from there. Groff also had a trick up his sleeve, bringing a video clip of him and his brother from that very same Halloween! In the video, Groff’s mother encourages him to sing the Mary Poppins classic “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

Baby Groff starts singing in drag at about three minutes in, and even as a toddler, he had the range! Julie would be proud

In addition to appearing in the acclaimed second season of Mindhunter— which is currently streaming — Groff also is starring in our favorite off-Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors, along with Tammy Blanchard in the role of Audrey and Christian Borle as the evil dentist.
