Fans of 90s cult classic film—rejoice! Cruel Intentions has been ordered for a remake by NBC. The revival will be a television series that takes place 15 years after the original movie. The plot, as described by Hollywood Reporter:

"A drama follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the film) as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined."

It’s wishful thinking that most of the original cast members would return for the remake, but nothing has been revealed on that front. So far the original writer and director of the film, Roger Kumble, is the only person that’s been confirmed to be working on the remake as executive producer. Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, co-writers of the modern-day musical parody of the movie, The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions, are also said to be working on the television remake.

The original film, which famously featured  the iconic same-sex kiss between Kathryn Merteui and Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blaire and Sarah Michelle Gellar), brought to light same-sex interactions of the '90s. We can only hope that the TV remake will take this to a whole new level.
