Netflix’s 'Elite' Is Coming Back Much Sooner Than Expected

And the large contingent of Omander stans are rejoicing!

For the past few years, one of our favorite Netflix shows has been the Spanish private school drama Elite. It has given us everything we needed, and more. But primarily, it’s given us Omander (a portmanteau of Omar and Ander, two leads in the show who are dating). And for that we thank them. And while Netflix had already confirmed that a new season was in the works — that announcement came before season two even debuted— now, the streaming giant has said that the season will debut much earlier than expected.

For the past two seasons, Elite has debuted in the fall — for 2019 it dropped in September. So the expectation would be that the third would follow in that pattern. Right expectation, wrong show! According to a release sent by Netflix to day, Elite will debut its third season, with 8 episodes in March 2020. Talk about striking while the iron is still hot. 

Details about the new season are scarce, but we do know that — like last season — we are getting introduced to two new characters. Welcome Leite Sene as Malik and Sergio Momo as Yeray. Their storylines — and even bios — haven’t surfaced yet but as the (slightly) messy queens we are, we are hoping for another queer character. They also notably mark the first darker skinned characters in the show’s main cast. And look at them: beautiful.

For those who oddly haven’t watched Elite and are unaware, the show is pretty queer. There’s Ander and Omar who are both finding their way through their sexuality and their relationship. Season two saw Omar fall on hard times as he became estranged from his family for a variety of reasons. He moved in with Ander and the close proximity, as well as Omar’s exploration of his newfound self (mostly Ander’s internalized homophobia) put a real strain on the relationship. But thankfully, they are still together.

And then there’s Polo, our problematic, murdering bisexual prince. He has some real problems to wrestle with (you know murdering someone, consent, and … well murder, so the cops too), but is also, honeslty just trying to figure everything out and bumbling his way through it. We’ll see how that all works out for him.
