Mikelle StreetIt is almost here ladies and gents. After a 30 year career in entertainment, and being the subject of multiple references on the show, RuPaul Charles will make his first appearance on Saturday Night Live this Saturday. Yes, it’s a long time coming
Today the show released a teaser for the episode on social media.
“Oh Ru!” Cecily Strong says to the star after he steps out of an elevator, presumably headed to the studio. “Yaaas, honey, yes, hi, Ru, hi!” she says, like one woul to any drag queen you might meet.
“Wow,” Ru replies, “Cecily, you really come on strong.” Ba da psssshhh!
Strong then shows Ru the way to the studio.
“Oh, hey!” Ru interjects. “I got an idea; why don’t we ‘Sissy That Walk?’” That’s the RuPaul we know and love, shouting out his own projects at literally any available opportunity. You better get those streams girl!
If you came here to find out whether Ru was in drag or not, I’m sorry to tell you but he was not. SNL has posted a card with the name Ruby Red instead of Ru — which is the name of Charles’ drag persona on AJ and the Queen, but that’s about all we’ve got. And given Ru’s history, and the time requirements of the show … it’s not looking good! We can dream though!
Maybe he can bring in a queen or two from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
