Because seriously, who doesn’t need a little mat talk with Jerry?
Mikelle StreetJerry Harris was a clear break out star from Cheer, the Netflix show that chronicled the Navarro College cheer team’s most recent season. Gabi Butler and La’Darius Marshall were great as well, true stars themselves, but few will ever forget Harris and his mat talk. That voice is one that will pick you up out of your misery, spur you into action, and never leave your ears. It was so memorable that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert called the cast up to do a sketch on the show centered around mat talk, and though everyone else gave it a valiant effort, Harris is truly the expert. Well we may be hearing more of that voice and seeing more of his face!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harris has now signed with Digital Brand Architects and its parent company UTA. Though he’s still a student, the agencies will represent Harris in television, endorsements, touring, literally, and product licensing deals. Yeah, we are going lifestyle brand ladies! We love to see it.
Over the span of the show Harris’s heart wrenching story was told, in a way giving context to his inspirational and empowering mat talk. As told in the show, Harris was raised by a single mother who sacrificed whatever she had to in order to allow him to cheer as a child, without ever mentioning it — cheer as a sport can be an incredibly expensive. She then eventually died from cancer, and Harris’s cheer family rallied around and supported him through the rest of his schooling and into college. Harris has obviously stuck with the sport, having gone to and won Nationals in Daytona with Navarro twice now — once on mat.
Since being on Cheer, Harris and the team have become minor celebrities appearing on Stephen Colbert, The Ellen Show, and more.
