Truly a full-circle moment.
MusicSchitt's CreekMikelle StreetWe don't exactly remember when David Rose made evident his undying infatuation with Mariah Carey. It was seasons ago but somewhere along the line we found out. Then, via Twitter it became clear that Rose's love was only an extension of show creator Dan Levy's own love for the singer. And now, she's returned that love in-kind, notably by crashing a virtual Schitt's Creek cover of the song "Hero."
As a part of the online 2020 commencement events quarterbacked by Barack and Michelle Obama, the Schitt's cast got back into character to serenade the outgoing seniors with a song. Moira Rose, walking thesaurus that she is, provided an eloquent but slightly befuddling introduction. She was joined pretty quickly by the entire Rose family, as well as the Jazzagals, Stevie Budd, and even multihyphenate-around-town, Ray! And in a number led by Patrick Brewer, the whole crew put on an acoustic version of "Hero."
For the last little bit of the song, Carey herself makes an appearance giving the most beautiful riffs we've heard while in quarantine yet.
"Moira darling, I hope you didn't mind I jumped in like that," she says. "You all sounded so good I had to get in on it!"
The Mariah Carey love has gone both ways with Schitt's. In February 2019, the star endorsed the show on Twitter, quoting a gif of the scene where Patrick calls David his "Mariah Carey." Then, in the season finale Patrick sings "Always Be My Baby" during his wedding with David, she tweeted about the show again, quote tweeting the scene.
Maybe right before Christmas she can tweet that she wants a holiday special!!
