We honestly can't stop laughing.
Mikelle StreetIf you've been waiting to see Bowen Yang back in leather gear, after suiting up with Harry Styles all those months ago, you're in luck. The Saturday Night Live cast member is back in cowhide for one of the show's latest skits, now as the Village People's leatherman.
This weekend on the show's recurring Weekend Update Yang and a few cast members teamed up to become the latest edition of the Village People. Yang was joined by Mikey Day, Beck Benett, Chris Redd, and Kenan Thompson who led the crew. the reason? They needed to respond to Donald Trump.
If you aren't aware, Trump has had some incredibly interesting musical choices over the past few years. He has used the music of Queen, Rihanna, Adele, and more, many of whom have asked him to stop. As the re-election campaign wound up, Trump was at it again notably using Village People's "Y.M.C.A." at rallies. It got quite the response from Anderson Cooper, who heard it in the background of a clip while on-air. Now, SNL is tackling it head-on.
"Stop it," the group sings, singing to the tune of their hit track. "Yeah I'm talking to you, I said stop it! This is long overdue, 'cause we never said that we support you. You must pay .. use ... to ... use ... our songs!" And the track continues on, much in that way.
Over the course of the next two minutes or so, the group threatens Trump with a cease and desist prepared by Alan Dershowitz — you may remember him for being a part of Trump's defense team in the impeachment hearings but the Village People have flipped him, — and then accuse the president on being on Jeffrey Epstein's island. They even go so far as to threatening to shave Ivanka Trump's hair. When told they can't say those things with no proof (or threaten someone with bodily harm) they respond simply.
"Everything is legal if you sing it in a song!"
If you're wondering about how the Village People really feel, in June lead Victor Willis (who wrote the track) asked him to stop playing "Y.M.C.A." and "Macho Man"as Trump ordered law enforcement to remove protestors from Lafayette Square. Willis, who is the group's straight leader, later said that he wouldn't sue Trump to get him to stop. That said, he has stated he will sue those who say "Y.M.C.A." is a song about gay sex.
