Out cover star Alexandra Grey has landed her next big recurring role.

Grey, who covered our Hollywood Issue, is set to begin a recurring role on CBS’s hit show MacGyver, about a war hero who uses his unconventional brain and problem solving skills to save the world.

Grey’s character, Parker, is described as a trans engineer at the Phoenix Foundation, the secret, privately funded, fourth arm of the U.S. intelligence network where MacGyver and his crew work. She’s been chosen by Matty Webber, the director of the foundation, to provide “critical assistance to MacGyver and his team.”

“Whether it be cracking cyphers to solve a case or lending a supportive ear when needed, Parker has their back,” Deadline reports. Her episodes are set to begin March 12.

Recently, Grey could be seen in the indie drama Gossamer Folds and as Lucy Hicks Anderson in Greg Berlanti’s HBO docuseries about LGBTQ+ rights, Equal. She’s also known for her roles in Transparent, How to Get Away With Murder, and Drunk History, where she played Marsha P. Johnson in an episode about the Stonewall Riots.

She took a big step into the spotlight when she landed a recurring role on Lee Daniels’ hugely successful show Empire, as Melody Barnes, a trans woman and singer who was signed to Empire Records before she came out. When she began to transition, she was fired from her deal by Lucious Lyon (Terrance Howard). Years later, she found her way back and was able to show the world what a star she is. Her appearance on the show was so well received, it led to her character’s name trending on Twitter.

Grey is quickly building a resume as one of television’s most versatile performers. “We’re bankable and we’re marketable, baby,” she told Out in her cover story. “People don’t care that we’re trans. They want to see good acting. They want to see good writing. I’ve played a superstar. I’ve played a murderer. I just played a rock and roll person. The sky’s the limit.”
