Is there a better Queen of Hearts? I don't think!
RuPaul's Drag RaceMikelle StreetThursday was the finale that rocked RuPaul's Drag Race U.K. In what was viewed by most as an upset, Scottish queen Lawrence Chaney pulled out a win. The victory came after a pretty solid season with Chaney starting off strong, pulling out wins week after week. Midseason, Bimini Bon Boulash hit her own stride, finishing the series strong leading many to believe she would take home the top prize. But RuPaul had other thoughts in mind for the crown and scepter. It was a surprise even to Chaney herself.
"I thought Bimini was gonna win," Chaney said in a PopBuzz video interview. "I was ready to praise my queen, my savior, my PMA hero. I was just so mindblown when it was announced it was me." PMA stands for "positive mental attitude," which Boulash explained to Chaney during the season.
That said: Bon Boulash isn't going home empty-handed.
In the video, Chaney helped to announce the superlatives for the Drag Race Yearbook, voted on by the cast. Categories included Best Look, Shadiest Queen, and more. And in lieu of Drag Race U.K. having an official Miss Congeniality, the segment got the queens to vote on one. Give it up for Bon Boulash!
"What a worthy winner," Chaney said once the name was announced. "Bimini is such a caring person. When you're in a competition format, there's not a lot of people you think wouldn't be out for themselves. Bimini is zipping you up, gluing nails to someone else before she's even got her frock on."
"She's an amazing human and deserves more than this but she definitely deserves this as well," Chaney finished.
"Honoured that I was awarded Miss Congeniality from the UK2 girls," Boulash tweeted. "Love them all, they're all b*tches xxx."
The feeling that Boulash deserves the world is widespread. The performer is the most-followed competitor of Drag Race U.K. history currently. She's also won the most RuPeter badges in show history, so far. Social media experts from Money.co.uk did the numbers and found that 70% of the 24,967 fan hashtags for who should win the season were in support of Boulash. It was a campaign even the Mayor of London got behind.
"Here in London you can be who you want to be, and love who you want to live," Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted after the finale. "Condragulations to London's finest Bimini Bon Boulash for a great Drag Race U.K. — you will always be our winner." Talk about being the people's choice.
And now, with a public relations team, a ton of editorials, and even music on the way, we honestly can't wait for her All Stars moment.
