It was the fight of his life.

In Ryan Murphy's latest, he takes us back into the world of the fashion designer Halston. A creative who innovated the ways in which high fashion designers handled licensing and branding, Halston made his name in the 1980s building a massive business. But as previewed in the official trailer for Murphy's limited series, he found himself fighting for his brand and even his name in the end as financial executives circled.
Like any Murphy original, the project promises to be beautiful. It stars Ewan McGregor as the titular designer. McGregor recently spoke out on his casting and why he felt it was ok to take the role even though he is not gay.
"If it had been a story about Halston's sexuality more, then maybe it's right that gay actors should play that role,"he said."But in this case — and I don't want to sound like I'm worming out of this, because it's something I did think a lot about — I suppose ultimately I felt like it was just one part of who he was."
Murphy said that McGregor was the perfect person to cast for the role. Both Dan Minahan who is the director of all five episodes and Christine Vachon, an executive producer of the series, are queer.
The series will see Halston build his name into a national phenomenon while enjoying the hedonistic highs of the 1980s. But towards its end, he will have to fight to keep his brand and even his name, before succumbing to complications related to AIDS in the final episode.
The series will launch on May 14.
