Love really is magic in the latest episode of Disney’s The Owl House.

While we’ve known since last season that Luz is bisexual and Amity is a lesbian and that they obviously have feelings for each other, the two crazy kids were too awkward and nervous to actually talk to each other about how they felt. But that all changed this past weekend.

In the eighth episode of season 2 of the show, “Knock, Knock, Knocking’ on Hooty’s Door,” Hooty, the owl demon of the titular Owl House, decides he needs to help out all the people living there. When he finds out that Luz wants to ask out her classmate Amity, he knows what he has to do.

What follows is a classic disaster comedy of errors. Luz is still too nervous to ask the “cool” Amity out. She thinks she’s nothing but a big nerd, and Hooty’s in-your-face messages of love only make her more of one.

Eventually, with the help of Eda and King, Luz gets the courage to ask out Amity, and it is adorable. With a huge blush on her face, Luz asks, “Amity Blight, do you want to go out with me?” With an even bigger blush on her own, Amity says yes! Love really does win, and it really does get better.

Here’s the thing, Luz and Amity aren’t the only queer couple confirmed as canon in the episode! In an Eda flashback, we also see that she and Raine, the nonbinary bard, used to be in a relationship before they broke up.

Oh yeah, also, Eda turns into a very sexy harpy woman, finally coming to peace with the curse she’s been living with most of her life. It’s a great gay episode for all of us.

The Owl House, created by Dana Terrace, who is herself bisexual, has picked up the incredibly high bar that She-Ra and the Princesses of Power set, and continues to run with it.

Last year, She-Ra became the first kid’s cartoon to have a queer protagonist, and the first kids cartoon centered around a queer romance. While Luz and Amity’s relationship isn’t the center of the show, the fact that they’ve become a couple at this point is something we haven’t seen before.

Additionally, we all know how reluctant Disney is to give even shreds of queer representation, so this really is a huge win for the gays. Thank you to Terrace and the whole crew, especially queer members, who have fought hard to get this representation on the Disney Channel.
