According to Deadline, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn is open to bringing the classic and groundbreaking musical comedy Glee back to the network. He mentioned the show while talking about another Fox show that’s made a few comebacks, 24.
When talking about classic Fox shows he’d like to see make a comeback, Thorn mentioned Glee, saying he’d “love to do more” of the groundbreaking musical series. He’s especially interested now, as the network has a new musical series, The Big Leap, which owes a lot to Glee.
“We always welcome celebrating our iconic shows and revisiting those with surprising takes and new approaches so, especially in this crowded market, we’re always open to reinventing our best IP with some of our favorite partners,” he said. However, as of now, he hasn’t heard any new pitches for Glee.
While Ryan Murphy is a superstar writer, director, and producer now, Glee was his first network show. He had previously had shows on The WB and FX. Since Glee, he’s had three other shows on Fox: Scream Queens, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1 Lone Star. He also has a large number of projects on FX and Netflix, including Pose, American Crime Story, American Horror Story, The Politician, Ratched, and Hollywood.
When it was airing, Glee went through a few soft reboots, adding a large group of new characters both in season four and in the final, sixth season. Neither group of new New Directions could capture the magic of the originals.
While the show had its ups and downs, it really was groundbreaking when it came to portraying the lives of queer high school students, including gay students Kurt and Blaine, lesbian Santana Lopez, and bisexual Brittany Pierce.
To be honest, we'd be more than happy to see a little more Glee on our TVs. Let's do this, Fox!
