Good news, Wildcats! There's about to be even more new High School Musical: The Musical: The Series content for us on the horizon!

After wrapping up its second season back in July, Disney+ just greenlit the LGBTQ-inclusive series — that gave one of their favorite gay, on-screen relationships ever, Seblos — for an official third season and we are ecstatic that a history-making, queer AF TV show is continuing to thrive!

Moving production from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, the theme of the third season of HSMTMTS will be sleepaway camp, and our favorite musical cast will be ditching the halls of East High for a summer getaway "complete with campfires, summer romances, and curfew-less nights," a recent press release reports.

"We are overjoyed to be heading to the great outdoors for season three, and grateful to our partners and friends at Disney+ for their continued support of our next-generation Wildcats," out creator and executive producer Tim Federle said about the season three renewal in a statement.

It's been a big year for many of the cast members of HSMTMTS

Back in June, actor Larry Saperstein (who plays Big Red on the show) took to TikTok to publicly open up about his sexuality and casually came out as bisexual

"Is it really that unexpected tho?" Saperstein captioned hsi TikTok video, which is basically just a selfie video where the words "Plays a character with a girlfriend on TV, is bi irl" show up on screen as the Backyardigans' viral hit "International Super Spy" plays in the background.

Later that month, co-star Joshua Bassett (who plays main character Ricky) confirmed he is also a part of the LGBTQ+ community (though he didn't state any specific label) in an interview with GQ following an interview that went viral with Clevver News where he called singer-songwriter Harry Styles "hot" that he himself called a "coming out."

"There are plenty of letters in the alphabet...why bother rushing to a conclusion?" Bassett said, describing himself as someone who is "anti-coming out," meaning he feels people shouldn't need to. "Sometimes your letter changes, sometimes you try a different one, other times you realize you’re not what you thought you were, or maybe you always knew. All of these can be true. I’m happy to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community because they embrace all. Don’t let anyone tell you love isn’t love. They’re the ones who probably need it the most."

When asked about the seriousness of the Clevver video where he sang praises for Harry Styles and came out, Bassett said that he wasn't joking at all.

"I stood behind every word that I said," he added. "Even if there are consequences, I would much rather deal with consequences and live my truth than live in fear."

In addition to Bassett and Saperstein, the show's resident gay couple Seb and Carlos, are played by Joe Serafini and Frankie A. Rodriguez respectively, both of whom are also members of the LGBTQ+ community and dating each other IRL. (Serafini is bisexual, Rodriguez is gay.) Actress Julia Lester, who plays Saperstein's love interest Ashlynn, also identifies as pansexual, rounding out one of the queerest casts of any television show currently airing right now!
