Ryan Murphy to Receive Carol Burnett Award At Golden Globes

The Carol Burnett Award goes to true legends in television, and Ryan Murphy is certainly one of those.

Murphy will become just the fourth-ever recipient of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award at this year’s ceremony on January 10. The award honors someone “based on their body of work and the lasting impact that their television career achievements have had on both the industry and audiences.”

The first Carol Burnett Award was given to Burnett herself at the 2019 ceremony. Since then, Ellen DeGeneres and Norman Lear have also won.

Murphy himself has been nominated for five Golden Globes as a producer, all in the Best Miniseries or Television Film category. American Horror Story: Coven, The Normal Heart, American Horror Story: Hotel, and Feud: Bette and Joan were all nominated, while The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won in 2017.

Several actors have also won Golden Globes for starring in Murphy’s projects, including Lady Gaga for AHS: Hotel, Sarah Paulson for The People v. O.J. Simpson, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez for Pose, Darren Criss for The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Chris Colfer for Glee, Matt Bomer for The Normal Heart, Jane Lynch for Glee, and Jessica Lange for American Horror Story.

“Ryan Murphy not only continues to enthrall audiences with his work on some of the most thrilling and exciting series of the century, but also continues to inspire all with his work off the screen,” HFPA president Helen Hoehne said. “His work and storytelling ability throughout different film and television genres have led to highly acclaimed achievements and awards.”

The Golden Globe nominations were announced recently, with queer nominees including Aubrey Plaza for The White Lotus, Emma D’Arcy for House of the Dragon, Hannah Einbinder for Hacks, Jeremy Pope for The Inspection, and Niecy Nash for Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which was produced by Murphy.

The Golden Globes will be held January 10 and will be hosted by out comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The show will air on NBC and stream on Peacock.
