We stan this new LGBTQ+ heartthrob!
Amaury Lorenzo is currently making waves by starring in the Brazilian soap opera Terra e Paixão. He is playing the fan-favorite character of Ramiro – a closeted queer cowboy from the countryside who falls in love with a man, Kelvin, played by Diego Martins.
On the show, Ramiro starts out as a very repressed and closeted guy who does his best to fight back any feelings for another man. In turn, Kelvin is a much more out and queer-presenting person, which ends up creating a “forbidden love story” dynamic between them. Fans have already begun shipping them as “Kelmiro.”
While it’s pretty common for viewers to root for those kinds of couples in film and television, it has come as a very pleasant surprise that mainstream audiences watching a primetime soap opera on broadcast television are finding themselves completely rooting for this gay love story. We have to stan!
During a new interview with Extra, Lorenzo opened up about his own sexuality. The actor said:
“I consider myself an LGBTQ+ man. It’s possible that in the future I could marry another man, cis or trans, or a woman, cis or trans. I know audiences are curious to know my sexuality. I don’t have a problem with that. I just hope that topic doesn’t overshadow my work as an actor.”
Lorenzo told the publication that, while he was an acting teacher, he witnessed three students get murdered for being queer. He also housed several friends over the years who were kicked out of their homes after coming out to their families.
When asked about whether his DMs are being flooded with thirst traps from men, Lorenzo joked:
“[I’ve been receiving] a lot of nudes! One of these days I was running at the beach and had to stop all the time to take pictures with fans. One of those fans asked if they could touch my ass. I allowed it, whatever.”
