A new lap of RuPaul’s Drag Race is starting this Friday on MTV!
During a pre-season interview with Out, Amanda Tori Meating, Dawn, Hershii LiqCour Jeté, and Q opened up about their mindsets going into Drag Race… and we couldn’t be more excited about what these queens are bringing to the franchise!
Amanda Tori Meating dishes on 40-inch-gate.
Besides doing drag, Amanda has worked as a wig stylist for many years. So we take her back to season 15’s infamous 40-inch-gate dilemma. Luxx Noir London claimed that her wig was 40 inches, but Irene The Alien refuted those claims. If Amanda were there in the werk room, which side would she take?
“Wow, what a question! I think I’d be on the side of the tape measure,” Amanda replied. “But I have a pageant answer for this. Sometimes, on camera, things don’t read the way they do in person. Something that is 40 inches in person might look like it’s 24 inches on camera. But I don’t know, math is a social construct to me.”
Dawn praises Sasha Velour.
Dawn was recently featured as a guest star on a show from Sasha Velour. When asked if Sasha is an inspiration to her drag, Dawn didn’t shy from gushing over the season nine winner: “Sasha Velour is my favorite Drag Race winner of all time. I think that her performance capabilities are superior to everybody. I think that she is an icon. A living legend. I am eternally grateful to her for even knowing who I am.”
Hershii LiqCour Jeté talks sisterhood with Kornbread.
From the house of Jeté, Hershii is the drag sister of season 14 Miss Congeniality winner Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté. So we had to ask if Kornbread gave her any advice to compete on Drag Race. “Don't embarrass her. That’s all she said,” Hershii replied. “Don’t go on and embarrass me. And if I do, she won’t claim me anymore. So it’s a lot on the line.”
Q considers herself a theater queen, so we asked if the puppet-themed musical Avenue Q is something that she’ll bring as a reference on Drag Race. “You know, I love a good puppet,” Q said. “Everybody loves puppets. I definitely love that musical. I love theater. I started when I was in first or second grade, so I’ve been doing it my whole life… and what’s drag but just crazy weird theater?”
