The queer Latinx series is back.
Tre'vell AndersonStarz’s trailblazing drama Vida is finally coming back for season two.
The queer Latinx series we need in the wake of Netflix’s cancellation of One Day At A Time follows Emma (Mishel Prada) and her sister Lyn (Melissa Barrera) who, after their mother dies, discover that her “roommate” was actually her lover. As the siblings contend with this unexpected news and re-enter their childhood community, ghosts from their past come back to haunt them. Emma’s connection with a former female fling leaves her questioning her sexual orientation, Lyn gets entangled in her own thorny romantic history, and when the sisters attempt to sell their mother’s local bar to developers, they are deemed “gente-fiers” by Marisol (Chelsea Rendon), an old friend turned activist.
In the season two, Lyn and Emma begin the monumental task of rebuilding their mother's business while navigating financial constraints, competing developers, and the growing anti-gentrification movement. They must contemplate the relationships in their lives, including their own, and are forced to dig deep to unearth what their mother’s legacy means to them.
Created by Tanya Saracho, the show also stars Ser Anzoategui, Carlos Miranda, and Roberta Colindrez. The heartthrob Raúl Castillo (Richie from Looking) and Adrian Gonzalez join as guest stars this season.
The series will hit the network on Sunday, May 26. And for those who prefer to binge their television shows, all 10 half-hour episodes of the second season will be made available on Starz streaming platforms three days earlier, on May 23, the network announced Monday. Before the show hits TVs again, Vida will have a world premiere screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.
